September is the New January
I read something last week that really resonated with me. September is more of a new year than January.
Hear me out, January 1st is the start of the new year; resolutions made, maybe things to look forward to, holidays, etc, you’ll be another year older, and perhaps you won’t be looking forward to that.
But in September, the kids return to school, and if you don’t have children, it will be of no consequence to you. However, if you do, like me, you’ll know that there are lots of things you put off until “the children go back to school”. Many a time, I have said that during the holidays. You get your time back, some peace to do what you need to do, and you can start again. It’s a do-over.
Do you, like me, make all sorts of promises about how the next school year will go? I will do my housework and walk the dogs before starting my work, yeah, right. I will make better food choices, try to save some money, and go to bed earlier.
September brings a sense of anticipation, a new school year, [my birthday], autumn, the changing of the weather; new coats, hats and boots; Halloween, bonfire night, Christmas…so much to look forward to.
Back to School
I’ve spent the summer learning new web development skills with the Geek Pack, which was mind-bogglingly exciting, but mostly, my work has been thankfully fairly relaxed. It is easy to do while my business is still in its infant stage, and hopefully, next year will be different.
Last summer, I worked full-time, and it passed in a blur. I’m blessed to be able to work from home and further blessed to be able to work for myself in the sometimes unpredictable world of a SEN parent.
My son has moved to secondary school this year, and whilst we haven’t done too many ‘making memory moments’, as an autistic 11-year-old boy, soon to be 12, he actually didn’t want to do too much, he’s not so fond of leaving the house, which is fine by me. We had a couple of days out; one was a definite winner!

Autumn
So, the end of the summer is upon us; it is time to knuckle down and get serious. No more working in the sunshine in the garden, I’m ready for munchy jumpers, thick socks and scarves.
I’m not yet six months into my little business; it’s time to grow The Willows Virtual Services. There’s a whole new world ahead.
What plans have you made?
